Sudan to skip IGAD meeting, FM spokesman

The Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, will not participate in the upcoming meeting called by IGAD next week in Ethiopia, according to the Sudanese Foreign Ministry spokesman.

The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 2677 (2023), by which the Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) until 15 March 2024 and requested the Secretary-General to report on the implementation of the Mission’s mandate every 90 days. The report covers political and security developments, the humanitarian and human rights situation and progress towards the implementation of the Mi ssion’s mandate between 16 February and 31 May 2023.

SPLM-IO official calls for removal of Chief Justice

In a tweet, Puok Both Baluang, the Acting Press Secretary in the Office of the First Vice President and SPLM-IO Director of Information and Public Relations, said that Chief Justice Madut’s removal is critical for ensuring free and fair elections as he has suggested he is politically allied to Kiir’s SPLM faction.
